This floor system is the most popular and best performing system for airborne noise reduction. If noise is your problem from below then this is the most effective solution for you.

Installation

  • We remove carpets and all floor boards
  • Compact fit RW3 100mm thick Rockwool in between the timber joist.
  • Fit batons to floor joist for acoustic plasterboards support
  • Fit 1st layer of 19mm acoustic sound plank on top of batons.
  • Fit 2nd layer of 12.5mm acoustic sound shield plasterboards on top of 19mm sound plank
  • All joints, gaps and perimeter sealed with acoustic mastic sealant.
  • Floor boards replaced and screwed down.
  • Floor sealed with acoustic mastic
  • Carpets refitted

Most common installation

Were excessive airborne noises are found coming from below .i.e loud TV’s, music, shouting, talking

Space impact

No increase in floor height. If optional extras are selected then 1/8 of an inch to 1/4 of an inch height increase (depending on additional upgrades)
or
2.5mm to 5mm increase in height (depending on additional upgrades)

Improvement in sound

50% to 70% improvement in noise reduction
or
17db+ to 26db+ improvement in noise reduction

Weight per kg/m² addition

Upgrades and Extras available for this system

Rockwool upgrade to RW5 – This would increase the density and weight of the Rockwool from RW3 - 60kg/m³ to RW5 – 100kg/m³. Around 10% to 15% improvement in noise reduction

Barrier Matting extra – Fit a 5kg/m² or 10kg/m² barrier matt on top of floor, this will increase the density and weight applied to the area. Around 10% to 15% improvement in noise reduction

Combination Floor System

This floor system is commonly used to level out an existing floor within a property that might have a floor height difference. Very similar to the under floor system, the “combi” system provides and achieves better coverage and noise reduction with the 19mm acoustic sound plank on top of the existing floor boards. If you do not mind having a small step or would like to get the optimal soundproofing throughout your property then this system is ideal.

Installation

5mm Plywood – Fit a 5mm plywood on top of floor boards for plasterboard protection

Above The Floor System

This floor system is commonly used to level out an existing floor within a property that might have a floor height difference. This system is also very common where there is no space under the floor boards or the floors are concrete finished.

Installation

  • Carpets removed
  • Floor sealed with acoustic mastic
  • Fit 1st layer of 19mm acoustic sound plank on top of floor finish.
  • All joints, gaps and perimeter sealed with acoustic mastic sealant.
  • Fit 2nd layer of 12.5mm acoustic sound shield plasterboards on top of 19mm sound plank

5mm Plywood – Fit a 5mm plywood on top of floor boards for plasterboard protection

ImpactLay Floor System

This is the most popular and sufficient impact noise reduction floor system. It is commonly installed to reduce footfall / impact noise caused by walking on floor boards. With the additional upgrade of Rockwool this system can also reduce airborne noise.

Installation

  • Carpets removed
  • Floor boards sealed with acoustic mastic sealant
  • Fit impact reduction matting on top of floor.
  • All joints are taped up
  • Carpets refitted
